A root canal treatment (known as endodontic treatment) saves a severely injured, inflamed, or decayed tooth when its pulp (the soft inner tissue inside a tooth's root canal) becomes inflamed or infected. If left untreated, pain or a tooth abscess (infection) can result.
Root canal treatment is completed in one or two visits to our modern Pembroke Pines office, depending on the presence of infection and the required treatment plan. Dr. Castillo will perform a thorough exam and take digital X-rays to assess the condition of your tooth and surrounding jawbone tissue. This will allow our dentist to determine the extent of the infection or injury and plan for your procedure.
During your root canal treatment, Dr. Castillo will administer a local anesthetic to numb your tooth and reduce any discomfort or pressure you may feel. For your comfort, we also offer laughing gas and oral sedation as necessary to help you relax. Then our dentist will remove the infected or inflamed dental pulp, clean out the root canal, and seal it.
After the root canal procedure, your tooth will need a dental crown to be properly restored. We offer crowns made from porcelain, zirconia, and gold, depending on your needs and preferences. Once your tooth has been restored, it will continue to function like any other tooth. With good oral hygiene, the restored tooth will remain strong and healthy for many years to come.
When the dental pulp inside the root canal becomes infected or inflamed, it can present with a variety of painful symptoms. The signs of an infected tooth include:
Call us right away if you experience one or more of the above symptoms.
The pain associated with a root canal comes from the painful toothache that patients suffer from before they seek treatment. During your procedure, our team will do everything we can to make your experience as comfortable, relaxed, and pain-free as possible. Be sure to ask about our sedation dentistry options to calm your nerves.
